Disheartening as it may sound, there are tons of professional con artists out there who target widows and widowers, says Nishank Khanna, CFO of Clarify Capital. Be sure to check the credentials of any individual who's reaching out to you following the death of your significant other and do your due diligence. "Blind faith in strangers can cause a lot of destruction. In most situations, you're better off erring on the side of caution and consulting with someone who you reached out to independently after thoroughly researching, rather than working with a professional who has reached out to you," says Khanna.
